So I am sitting here at my desk. I just got off a call and Jen, my lead, comes over and says, "Oh good, you're on available. Go on release. Matt has been working with a firm who has 10 machines that they cannot upgrade to 4.9. Could you team up with him and help get these knocked out?"
Naturally I am always willing to help, even if the particular job is a torturous one. And being that this particular problem is with install errors that we have never seen before.
So I hop into a livemeeting and get on the first of these 10 machines. I want to see what the specific error is so I run our installer and it installs fine, without any error! Then the user informs me that since I have been on the phone 4 other machines have just started working for no apparent reason. Then I trade machines with matt because the one he has been working on for several hours just won't install and he was out of options.
So I get into his livemeeting and take control. I read the error and hit okay and watch the install roll back. Then I make sure that there are no stray files out there. I then run the installer and it just works.... At this point Matt is starting to feel pretty lackluster. Then I hop on another machine and do the same thing. I have not had to troubleshoot a single problem, I just install and it works magically!
I In 2 hours we went from 10 machines that would not install at all to one machine that I am just waiting for it to reboot so I can install. Computers fear me!
